With his ‘Beautiful music & masterful musicianship’ (Americana UK) and ‘Intimate, mellifluous country sounds’ (RnR Magazine), Craig Gould’s celebrated artistic talent has received comparisons with songwriting royalty such as Cat Stevens, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan & Fleetwood Mac.
Following a string of successful singles, Gould’s debut album ‘Songs from the Campfire’ released to critical acclaim and achieved top 20 status in the UK’s Official Americana (#19), Folk (#16) and Indie Breakers (#20) album charts, alongside hitting #1 on the Amazon Music HNR Folk Chart; An incredible achievement for an independent artist and further reinforcing his growing reputation as one of the hottest new writers and performers on the UK folk/americana scene.
‘Songs from the Campfire is a work of great beauty’ - At the Barrier
Gould’s crowdfunded ‘Excellent debut record’ (Maverick Magazine) was recorded at various locations across the UK and mixed/mastered/co-produced by Miles Myerscough-Harris at Whispering Bob’s ‘Under the Apple Tree' studios. Featuring artists such as Anna Corcoran (AMA-UK Instrumentalist of the year/Laura Marling/Robert Vincent), Dan Sealey (Ocean Colour Scene), Blánid (Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’ anime vocalist) & Chris Baldwin (Riding The Low), anticipation for the albums launch increased with each single release. Recognition of Craig’s songwriting ability grew swiftly with the likes of BBC Radio Kent, Music & Tour News, the BCMA, Modern Age Music & digital distributor CD Baby all including Craig’s music within ‘Release of the Week’ features. The album’s admiration continued right to the end of 2023 with highly respected music blogs At The Barrier, Music News Monthly & BluesBlues all listing Gould’s release amongst their end of year ‘Best Albums of 2023’ round ups.
Craig’s work also received warm support from some of the UK’s leading folk/americana radio shows, including Frank Hennessy/BBC Wales, Iain Anderson/BBC Scotland, Ralph McLean/BBC Ulster, Tim Walker/BBC Lincolnshire, Countryline Radio & Amazing Radio in both the UK and USA. This generous coverage allowed the story behind the songs to shine - Songs from the Campfire was a 3-year project in partnership with the mental health charity CALM. Gould continues to use his platform to openly discuss mental health illness and still donates profits from the album's release to the charity to help others in need.
With a live performance history containing appearances at The Long Road, Ynot, Bearded Theory, Solfest & Timber festivals, support slots with huge UK acts such as Levellers, Ocean Colour Scene and The Beautiful South’s Dave Hemingway, its easy to understand how Gould has become a headline artist in his own right. Celebrations for the album release in 2023 included two successful & self-managed national tours (travelling as north as Glasgow and as south as Brighton), four sell-out shows and performances/signing sessions in two HMV stores.
‘His music is raw, honest, beautifully written and composed. He’s also cracking live’ York Calling
Nominated by the BCMA as part of their 2023 award celebrations, invited by the AMA-UK to perform during London’s prestigious Americana Music Week, and endorsed by Tanglewood Guitars; Momentum from Gould’s breakthrough year shows no sign of slowing anytime soon.
